Intravitreal or periocular triamcinolone

Triamcinolone (Kenalog) is a steroid suspension used for injection into the eye (intravitreal injection) or next to the eye (periocular injection).  Steroid injections are used in the treatment of uveitis, cystoid macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and other conditions that affect the eye.   Risks associated with the use of steroids in or around the eye include cataract, glaucoma, infection, inflammation, and retinal detachment.  As with all medical treatments, discussion with your eye doctor about the risks and benefits of treatment is important.
