Laser photocoagulation is a procedure that uses a laser to treat retina or blood vessels within the retina. Laser photocoagulation can be performed in the clinic or during surgery in the operating room. A high-energy beam of light is aimed onto the retina in the area of retinal disease, and pulses of energy are delivered in a controlled manner. Your doctor may recommend laser surgery as part of the treatment plan for a retinal tear, retinal detachment, wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, or other retinal disease. |
